Connect Linear when your team plans delivery there but wants engineering work tied to the customer requests that motivated it. Team members can create or link Linear issues and projects without copying context between tools.

Before you connect

  • Linear is available on Starter and higher plans.
  • A Glean Feed Owner or Admin must connect the integration and manage its defaults or automation.
  • The person authorizing in Linear must be allowed to install the Glean Feed app for the intended Linear workspace.
  • After setup, any Glean Feed workspace team member can create, link, or unlink Linear work from a request.

1. Connect Linear

  1. Open Integrations > Linear.
  2. Select Connect.
  3. In Linear, choose the correct workspace and approve Glean Feed.
  4. Return to Glean Feed and confirm the status is Active.
  5. Under Defaults, choose a Team. Optionally choose a Project, Priority, and Labels. The saved Assignee is not currently applied; choose an assignee during manual issue creation when needed.
  6. Select Save settings.
The supported defaults apply when Glean Feed creates a Linear issue. Vote automation leaves new issues unassigned. The integration acts as the Glean Feed app in Linear, so created issues and attachments appear from the app rather than the team member who selected the action.

2. Complete a linked issue workflow

  1. Open a feedback request in Glean Feed.
  2. Open its Linear menu and choose the action to create a Linear issue.
  3. Review the selected Linear team and optional defaults, then create the issue.
  4. Confirm the request now shows the Linear issue key, title, status, team, and project when available.
  5. Open the link and confirm the Linear issue includes the request title, description, vote count, dashboard link, and a public request link when that request is publicly visible.
The feedback list also shows a Linear indicator for requests with active links. From a request’s Linear menu, a workspace team member can:
  • Link an existing issue by its Linear URL or key, such as ENG-123.
  • Link an existing Linear project from the connected workspace.
  • Unlink an issue or project.
Unlinking removes only the relationship in Glean Feed. It does not delete, close, or modify the Linear issue or project.

Vote automation

Vote automation is separate from the manual actions above. An Owner or Admin configures it in Integrations > Linear under Vote automation. For each board:
  1. Select Enable vote threshold.
  2. Enter the number of votes required.
  3. Choose the Linear team and any project, priority, or labels for that rule.
  4. Select Save settings.
When a new vote brings an approved, unmerged request to or above the threshold, Glean Feed creates one Linear issue, links it to the request, and adds a private note explaining why it was created. Repeated votes above the same rule do not create another active link for that request and rule.

Sync reference

For linked issues, Glean Feed refreshes the issue key, title, status name and type, team, and project. For linked projects, it refreshes the project name, URL, status when available, and teams. Glean Feed does not sync Linear comments or descriptions back to requests, and it does not use Linear changes to move request stages, roadmap stages, or changelog entries.

Troubleshoot Linear

Open the Linear actions menu in Integrations > Linear and select Test connection. The result checks the current authorization, required access, app identity, saved defaults, and vote rules.
  • If the status says Reconnect, select Reconnect and approve the same Linear workspace again.
  • If metadata cannot load, reconnect and then review every saved default and rule.
  • If issue creation fails, confirm the selected team, project, assignee, priority, and labels still exist and the Glean Feed app can access them.
  • Check Activity for recent connection, linking, automation, or authorization failures.

Privacy and disconnect

When creating an issue, Glean Feed sends the request title, description, vote count, dashboard link, and eligible public link to Linear. When linking an existing issue, it can add a backlink attachment containing the request title, vote count, and dashboard URL. Glean Feed stores the Linear identifiers and display metadata needed for linked previews. Do not create or link work containing customer information that your Linear workspace should not receive. To disconnect, open the Linear actions menu, select Disconnect, then confirm Disconnect Linear. New actions and vote automation stop. Historical links remain visible on requests, and disconnecting does not delete Linear issues or projects.
