# Connect Discord

> Turn community messages into feedback and send selected Glean Feed updates to one Discord channel.

Connect Discord when product feedback already appears in a customer or community server. Members can review a message before creating a Glean Feed request, or start a request from a blank form. Selected workspace updates can post back to one channel.

## Before you connect

* Discord is available on Growth and higher plans.
* A Glean Feed Owner or Admin must connect and configure the integration.
* The person installing the app in Discord needs permission to manage the intended server.
* One Discord server can connect to one Glean Feed workspace in this version.
* Choose up to ten text channels where members can capture feedback. Anyone permitted to use the app command in one of those channels can submit to the connected workspace; their Discord access is not mapped to a Glean Feed workspace role.

## 1. Connect Discord

1. Open **Integrations > Discord** in Glean Feed.
2. Select **Connect**, then select **Create pairing code**. The code is shown once and expires after 10 minutes.
3. Select **Install Discord app** and choose the intended server. Discord requires permission to manage that server.
4. In a channel where the app is available, run `/gleanfeed connect`.
5. Enter the pairing code in the private form that opens.
6. Return to **Integrations > Discord** in Glean Feed and reload the page.

The pairing code is private and single-use. Do not paste it into a public Discord message.

## 2. Configure capture and notifications

1. Under **Defaults**, choose the **Notification channel** and **Default board**.
2. Under **Capture channels**, select up to ten channels where the Discord commands should work.
3. Under **Notifications**, choose which Glean Feed updates should post to Discord.
4. Select **Save settings**.

The app lists text channels it can view. A notification channel must also allow the app to send messages and embed links. By default, new feedback requests, new comments, and published changelog entries are enabled. Status changes are off.

## Capture a Discord message

1. Open the message menu for a Discord message and choose **Apps > Capture in Glean Feed**.
2. Review the title and description, choose a board, and optionally add a private source note.
3. Submit the form.
4. Open the private confirmation to view the new request.

The selected message is copied only after someone deliberately invokes the command and submits the review form. Glean Feed records the necessary server, channel, message, and user context privately with the request. Attachments, embeds, reactions, threads, and reply history are not imported.

To create feedback that is not tied to an existing message, run `/gleanfeed create` in an allowed capture channel and complete the blank form.

Submitting the same Discord message again returns the existing request instead of creating a duplicate. Normal board moderation still applies, so a new request may remain pending.

## Notifications

Glean Feed sends enabled events to the single configured notification channel:

| Setting | Default |
| ------------------------------- | ------- |
| **New feedback requests** | On |
| **New comments** | On |
| **Published changelog entries** | On |
| **Status changes** | Off |

Notifications do not mention Discord members. A request captured from the connected Discord server is not echoed immediately back to that same server as a new-feedback notification.

Failed deliveries retry automatically. If the app is removed from Discord or loses access to the configured channel, Glean Feed stops delivery and shows **Reconnect** instead of repeatedly retrying.

## Channel access and privacy

The app requests only **View Channels**, **Send Messages**, and **Embed Links**. It does not request Discord's Message Content privileged intent and does not passively read channel history.

Glean Feed stores the Discord server, channel, message, and user identifiers needed for connection, source context, delivery, and activity. The bot credential and signed interaction tokens are not stored with workspace data. Review sensitive message content before submitting it to Glean Feed.

## Troubleshoot Discord

* Confirm the Glean Feed workspace is still on Growth or higher and Discord shows **Active**.
* If a channel is missing, give the app **View Channel** access there, then reload **Integrations > Discord**.
* If a notification channel is unavailable, also allow **Send Messages** and **Embed Links**.
* If capture says setup is incomplete, save a default board, at least one capture channel, and one notification channel.
* If settings says **Reconnect**, select **Reconnect**, install the app in the same server, and enter the new pairing code with `/gleanfeed connect`.
* Check **Activity** for recent connections, captures, deliveries, retries, settings changes, and disconnections.

## Disconnect Discord

Open the **Discord actions** menu in **Integrations > Discord**, select **Disconnect**, then confirm **Disconnect Discord**. New Discord capture and notifications stop immediately. Existing feedback and saved private source context remain in Glean Feed.

Glean Feed also asks the Discord app to leave the server. If that remote step fails, remove the app from Discord's server settings; the Glean Feed connection remains disabled either way.
